About Our School BuildingNorth Ridge has one of the best buildings in the district. The original school was built in 1968. In 2018, the school was completely demolished to build a brand new, state of the art structure. There are many elements that make our building special. First is the beauty. Bold colors, large windows, and creative building material work together to make our building attractive. When the building was constructed, care was taken to preserve many of the mature hardwood trees that surround the campus. Not only is the building beautiful, it is designed with 21st century learning at the center. Classrooms are filled with collaborative furniture and flexible seating options. Most of the furniture is movable so that we can adapt our classrooms to the needs of the students and the structures of the lessons. Most of the tables are made with whiteboard material that can be written on with expo markers. Each classroom is equipped with a large flatscreen monitor that can be connected to laptops and iPads for material to be presented by the teachers or students. Lastly, the learning commons are one of the most unique features of the school. Each grade level has 5 or 6 classrooms that are organized around a large collaborative space called a learning commons. The learning commons are filled with a variety of movable furniture that can be easily rearranged depending on the needs of the day. These learning commons create an addition space for individuals and small groups to learn. On occasion we even use the spaces to combine classes for large group presentations. |
